Shaun A. Carlson, Ph.D., who has worked as a postdoctoral fellow with C. Edward Dixon, Ph.D. since 2013, has been promoted to the rank of Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery, School of Medicine.

Dr. Carlson’s main research interests at the Safar Center include research examining mechanisms contributing to TBI-induced impairments in neurotransmission. Prior to his promotion, he conducted research as a post-doctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. C. Edward Dixon. Dr. Carlson is a previous recipient of the NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award, and has received several prestigious awards, including the Murray Goldstein Award, the Anthony Marmarou Award of Excellence from the National Neurotrauma Symposium, the Nancy Caroline Award at the University of Pittsburgh.
