In the winter of 2016, the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research donated Dr. Peter Safar’s papers to the University of Pittsburgh’s Archives and Special Collections, and now, nearly two years later, undergraduates, and researchers of all levels, have the opportunity to conduct research at the University Archives on his life and work.

Backed by a special University of Pittsburgh partnership, one undergrad has already used this resource to research the history of the Freedom House, Pittsburgh’s first EMS service, founded in Pittsburgh’s Hill District by Dr. Safar in 1967. The University of Pittsburgh’s Archives and Special Collections are currently working on digitizing the Safar papers so that Dr. Peter Safar’s incredible legacy can be readily accessible to all.
