On the evening of September 23rd, Drs. Robert Clark and Patrick and Maureen Kochanek hosted a critical care medicine (CCM) departmental retirement celebration honoring Dr. Ann Thompson, Vice Dean of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Distinguished Service Professor of CCM, and former chief of the division of pediatric CCM at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP).

Dr. Thompson will step down as Vice Dean at the end of the calendar year. The event, held at the Kochanek’s home was attended by many departmental leaders including CCM department chair Dr. Derek Angus, and many individuals who worked with Dr. Thompson early in her career at UPMC CHP including Drs. Richard Orr, Shekhar Venkataraman, and Joseph Carcillo, along with Janet Santucci–her long-time outstanding administrative assistant, and Karen Christman, former social worker extraordinaire at UPMC CHP. Dr. Thompson was instrumental in developing the internationally acclaimed pediatric intensive care unit and pediatric CCM fellowship training program at UPMC CHP, which has trained many of the leaders in the field nationwide.

Congratulations to Dr. Thompson on a truly spectacular career!
