At the recent Becker’s Health IT meeting, Dr. Christopher Horvat, Senior Director, Clinical Informatics of UPMC, highlighted UPMC’s transition to a single electronic health record paired with a cloud-based analytics platform, an initiative already reshaping how care is delivered and measured across 40 hospitals spanning the mid-Atlantic United States. What resonated most in that discussion was not only the scale of the technology but the opportunity it creates: registries constructed in weeks instead of years, clinical trials embedded directly into care, and operations tracked with unprecedented fidelity.
