Summer ’22 started in full-force for Safar Center trainees in the laboratories of Drs. Corina Bondi and Anthony Kline. With the return of in-person conferences, trainees ranging from undergraduate to resident trainee levels are representing the PM&R labs and the Safar Center around the world this year. We are happy to recognize the following trainees for their achievements:

Bondi and Kline Laboratories

 

Dr. Nicholas Race, MD, PhD, PGY-3 (Bondi lab, top left): Oral presentation invitation (among top 7 abstracts from 83 submissions) at the Children’s Hospital Research Day, University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Race presented his work entitled “Psychosocial safety learning impairments following controlled cortical impact in male rats: a pilot.”

Eleni Moschonas, BS, 3rd year graduate student (Bondi and Kline labs, top middle): Trainee travel award at the 39th annual symposium of the National Neurotrauma Society (NNS), Atlanta, GA; Data blitz invitation to the 15th International Neurotrauma Symposium (INTS), Berlin, Germany, where she will present a project entitled “Music as a novel and non-invasive rehabilitative paradigm to promote motor, affect, and cognitive recovery after experimental traumatic brain injury.”

Tyler Ranellone, BS, student research technician (Bondi lab, top right, pictured with Dr. Corina Bondi and Dr. Stephen Meriney, Dept. of Neuroscience): Neuroscience Research Excellence Award, Center for Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh. The award is presented for dedication to laboratory research throughout undergraduate career. In 2022, 6 awardees were announced from a graduating class of 175 students.

Ann Robles (Bondi lab, bottom left), Anna Carpio (Kline lab, bottom middle), and Andrew Victoria (Kline lab, bottom right), undergraduate students: Awards covering registration, housing and travel to attend and present posters at the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) National Diversity in STEM annual conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
