Safar Center associate director, Dr. Amy Wagner, was recently promoted to the position of full professor in the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R).

In addition to her clinical work as a Brain Injury Medicine Physiatrist consultant in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), Dr. Wagner is an internationally recognized expert in translational investigation in the field of traumatic brain injury (TBI) rehabilitation. Her work has focused on neurotransmitter systems, neuro-inflammation, and hormonal influences on secondary injury and recovery after TBI. Her work has involved studies at both the bench and bedside, and has spearheaded the use of serum and CSF biomarkers in a Rehabilomics approach.

She is also dedicated to the advancement of young investigators and has mentored scores of undergraduate, graduate, and early career researchers, many of whom conduct their investigations at the Safar Center.
