Jessica Jarvis, PhD in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Safar Center T32 fellow, received one of the six Pediatric Critical Care Medicine research awards at the virtual World Federation Pediatric Intensive and Critical Care Societies (WFPICCS) congress for her abstract which addressed child functional recovery after pediatric neurocritical illness. Her study leveraged existing data from a PCORI-funded pilot trial lead by one of her mentors, Dr. Ericka Fink, to reveal that 70% of pediatric survivors of critical illness continued to experience new functional impairment in one or more outcome domains ( behavioral, cognitive, physical, and family functioning) at 6 months after discharge.

This Early Investigator Award was given based on a cumulative score from the written abstract and oral presentation. Her abstract will be published in an upcoming issue of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.

Congratulations to Jessica and her mentor on this work.
