Rosalyn Garman Histotechnology FundRosalyn Garman was an accomplished histotechnologist who took pride in the quality of her sections and stains and particularly enjoyed having the opportunity to perform collaborative research with investigators studying brain injury at the Safar Center. Rosalyn especially enjoyed interacting with both the researchers and technicians at the Center, although she also collaborated with investigators in other programs at the University of Pittsburgh and beyond. Over the years, Rosalyn developed expertise in the area of microscopic neuroanatomy and was recognized for her contributions to standardizing histopathologic evaluations in developmental neurotoxicity studies in rodents.

Rosalyn’s histotechnology fund is designed to provide additional support that will target the histotechnology programs within the various Safar Center research projects, realizing that histotechnology has the potential to provide key insights within any program designed to understand the morphologic aspects of nervous system injury.

“Emeritus Director of the Safar Center, Dr. Patrick Kochanek commented that Rosalyn contributed enormously to the success of our center including 20 publications in the field of cerebral resuscitation working together with her husband, veterinary neuropathologist Dr. Robert Garman. Together, they set the standard for exceptional quality in neuropathology and garnered multiple covers to scientific journals. I know that everyone in the Safar Center is saddened by the loss of Rosalyn, a colleague and friend, but I believe that this fund is a perfect memorial to her work.”

We hope that you will consider honoring Rosalyn’s memory by contributing to this vital area of research within the Safar Center. Details on honoring Rosalyn through contributions to this important fund are available in the Giving section drop down menu on this website.
