Former Safar Center T32 Scholar Dr. Chris Horvat, and Safar Center Director Dr. Patrick Kochanek, recently co-authored an editorial published in JAMA Pediatrics, titled “Big Data Not Yet Big Enough to Determine the Influence of Intracranial Pressure Monitoring on Outcome in Children with Severe Traumatic Brain Injury.” The editorial examines a new study by Bennett et al. on the potential of ICP monitoring in pediatric TBI – challenging its utility. The editorial outlined the limitations of TBI databases that are currently available to these types of studies. It also identified the critical need to better phenotype TBI and, in that regard, deficiencies in granularity of available data. You can read the full abstract of the editorial here. Congratulations to Chris on this high impact editorial.
