Third Annual Safar Symposium

The third Annual Safar Symposium including the 25th Peter and Eva Safar Annual Lectureship in Medical Sciences and Humanities this year drew a croud of some 300 participants. Under Dr Patrick Kochanek's leadership, international renowned speakers addressed the scientific aspects of CNS injury from apoptosis to treatment with hypothermia. The 3rd Nancy Caroline Fellowship Award was presented to Dr Ericka Fink for her research work as a senior pediatric CCM fellow. She has been recruited as a junior faculty member in the Ped. CCM Division from July 1.

The Silver Anniversary Safar lecture was presented by Dr James C. Grotta, professor of Neurology and Roy M. and Phyllis Gough Huffington Distingusihed Chair, Department of Neurology, University of Texas-Houston. His topic "The Top 10 Issues in Acute Stroke Treatment" was a superbly presented lecture on the current status of the emergent therapy of stroke victims to provide maximal survival of neurons in stroke.

The afternoon session of this most successful symposium was dedicated to Advances in Human Simulation Education, moderated by Drs John Schaefer and Ake Grenvik with presentations by WISER faculty members and invited guests from other prominent simulation training centers.
